Guido Daniele is an italian born artist, known for his hyper realistic body art paintings. His work is absolutely everywhere, so it’s hard to say you haven’t seen it, however very few people know the man behind the art.

Because his art is literally “hand made” he relies on not only a model with patience, but also good hands to properly show off his animals and creations.

Don Kenn is an artist, most known for his monster doodles on post-it notes.

Recently, he’s been involved with the music video scene, I’ve followed him for the past year or so, and it’s awesome to see some of his imagination come to life in the video he directed for Fallulah entitled “Out of it”. The video has a bit of a Bat for Lashes feeling while the song itself is more comparable to Lykke Li or even Santogold. Don Kenn’s Monsters really make the video unique.

I’d love to see if gets the chance to create anything else for music videos or even movies using his distinct style.

Paul Laurent Hughes is an amateur photographer that works in predominately black and white. His pictures range from the close subject profile to abstract long-exposure pictures of roads, and buildings, creating perspective and vanishing points within his abstractions.

His sense of composition and geometry is absolutely stunning, and his use of light helps to bind the entire pieces together. Especially in his series titled “underground” use of long-exposure really helps create an abstraction with straight line motion.

I mentioned Rusty Taco in my post from last friday, but in passing the restaurant again, I thought I’d feature the restaurant itself as it is one of my favorite spots in Dallas. Built in an old gas station, the restaurant is full of character, and great food.

Their logo to me seems much more genuine, as their food is, not so much of a processed and corporate environment, as is so prevalent.

So today’s design is slightly different from what I have been featuring. I’ll atribute that to the fact I’d like to explore more of the fashion side of things, and a cold front.

So today I decided to feature a jacket from H&M, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite stores. Decent prices, and no huge branding all over all over their products, really let people create their own looks.

Steffbomb is a Chicago-based artist I had the pleasure of meeting a few months ago when I went to visit Threadless. She’s made a few Threadless inspired plush, as well as some other pop culture inspired creatures, such as the At-At walker from Star Wars.

Her sense of humor comes through loud and clear and is takes a backseat only to her craftsmanship and quality. Be sure to check out her website, and her etsy for more projects you can buy!

I don’t know much about the group Dye, other than their music is somewhat reminiscent of m83 meets pictureplane, however, their music video is one of those buckle-up, there’s not way to prepare for what you’re about to see, sort of videos.

Directed by animator Jérémie Périn, the video tells the story of “a group of highschool kids ready for teenage mischief.”…and so much more.

Monochrome Monday #6

Now normally I wouldn’t focus on something so abstract, in the “high art” realm, but Mats Bergquist‘s work is really something I may one day like to own for a living area, or workspace.

It’s geometrical, simple, modern, and clean. I think the fact that it is so non-invasive but high-contrast, is one of the aspects that appeals so much to me. I appreciate the sculptural qualities as well—occupying 3-d space while being attached to the wall.

So this little gem didn’t really jump out at me, infact, I’ve seen it so many times whilst eating at Rusty Taco, I just took it for granted, but it wasn’t until I saw the neon sign lit up at night that I actually appreciated it. It’s got a lot of character.

Besides being a fun play on words the typography of the Parkit Market, isn’t your typical neon signage, and I feel that needs to be celebrated. I think I’ll actually go inside someday, and explain it’s all because of their sign.

I know my crummy little picture doesn’t do it much justice, if you’re in the Dallas area, have a look at it yourself!.

I’m not really a comic fanatic, but this new tee from Threadless might make me consider reading a few. As a part of their Comics on Tees line, Threadless picks some awesome artists to essentially turn tees into, well…comic books.

This particular tee is my favorite from the recent “Making Friends is Easy” is from Becky Cloonan. It is just compositionally an amazing tee, and uses the canvas as a really interesting way to tell a story. Granted, I’m not exactly sure I follow the story, but it’s still fun to look at.
